Born in 1972, Frédéric Léglise belongs to the new generation of artists focusing on a return to painting. He starts by photographing his female models, captured in the intimacy of a sometimes barely-suggested nudity. The women emerge from a plain white background in a palette of acid colours and pastels that have come to characterise the artist’s work.
“Starting from the initial shots, the paintings that carry on from the photo sessions essentially retain the model’s body as well as number of accessories (…) The artist omits and removes anything he feels is superfluous. The bodies then appear to be lost in a timeless white space that stretches on forever.”
His paintings have been shown in many places, such as Athens Frissiras Museum, FRAC Haute-Normandie and Passage de Retz in Paris.
