Ángela Lergo is a recognized artist in the contemporary art scene. Her works have been exhibited in museums such as the MMoma (Moscow Museum modern Art), the Malpartida Vostell Museum, Centro Andaluz de Arte Contemporáneo CAAC, Museo de Caceres, Museo de Huelva and Centro de Arte de Sevilla CAS in Spain, the Department of Cultural Affairs in Monaco, the Bozar Museum in Brussels… And his work has also been exhibited in Germany, France, the USA, Switzerland, Korea, Choina, Norway, Austria, Canada, the Netherlands, Portugal and Chile in numerous international art fairs, and has been on the cover of and in prestigious specialist magazines such as ABC Cultural, Mu, Arte al Límite, El punto, Lápiz …
His sculptures are the result of a complex execution process, in which he demonstrates a deep knowledge of techniques and materials and a great care in the production process. Based on materials that seem to envelop the figures, Lergo meditates on the spaces that encompass the body and the senses, working dialectically from the natural and the artificial, always creating a new space of reality in the installations. He often uses industrial materials (tyres, drums, etc.), technological and electronic materials (television screens, diodes, RGB lights, neon lights, etc.), or natural materials (such as bird wings, spices, sea salt, etc.), sometimes alien to traditional sculptural creation, each one integrated by its conceptual, social, historical, anthropological or cultural charge, which enriches the message of the work, giving it great strength and contemporaneity.
The human being, figure and soul, is the foundation of the timeless work developed by the artist Ángela Lergo. She is one of those creators who define manuals as multidisciplinary, but in reality the basis of her work is the body and its raw material is the emotions. Hers is a modern and multifaceted aesthetic, which includes performance and installations, to give an integral, and observable, vision of the immaterial. In his sculptures we are confronted with figures that evoke the pure ideal of beauty, approaching the Platonic concept of the universal man where a deep humanity is recognized.
Both in the sculptural installation and in the performance, she has made her work a message, above all, feminine and strong. A look that seeks to undermine the sensations, emotions and consciousness of the viewer and sometimes tear from the roles of society, rituality and stories that do not yet perish. The exploration of the human body and the inquiry into its dialectic and emotional dimensions, magic, human existence, nature and social commitment are all merged in this work whose installations and other sculptural pieces conceal certainties that only the senses can experience.
