Carles Azcón

Carles Azcón, the son of Catalan parents, was born in Canberra, Australia, in 1982. Travelling and experiencing completely different places from a very young age profoundly shaped his worldview and influenced his artistic thinking. At nine months old, he travelled to Europe, specifically to Granollers and Barcelona, where he lived until the age of nine. In 1991, he and his family moved to Brussels, Belgium, where they remained for five years. He attended primary school at the European School of Brussels, where he began to develop an interest in art, particularly painting. During trips to the outskirts of Brussels and neighbouring countries, he was influenced by the landscapes and museums he encountered. Throughout these years, he also attended drawing and painting classes focused on observing nature.

At the age of 14, he returned to Catalonia, settling in Cardedeu, Barcelona, where he continues to live today. Carles Azcón took art classes for four years at the Jordi Aligué Art Studio. In 1999, he studied the Arts Baccalaureate at IES Celestí Bellera in Granollers. He began his first year studying Art History but later continued with an advanced degree in Applied Arts at the Massana School in Barcelona, where he refined his painting technique and increasingly focused his personal interests on painting.

In 2006, he returned to the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Barcelona, following the painting programme. At the same time, between 2006 and 2008, he participated in the Off Massana project, an initiative connecting the Massana School with Poble Espanyol in Barcelona.

In 2010, he graduated in Fine Arts from the University of Barcelona. In 2011, he completed a Master’s Degree in Artistic Creation: Realisms and Environments, which allowed him to further develop his previous work and present the project Painting as Photosynthesis, a poetic analogy between the biological process and his own creative process. Since December 2011, he has been an artist-in-residence at Roca Umbert, Factory of the Arts, located in Granollers, where he develops his personal projects while working alongside and interacting with other resident artists.

For Carles Azcón, the world of art allows him to follow a path through life that is neither straight nor monotonous, but constantly changing. It has enabled him to observe and understand the world from his own perspective, connect with lived emotions, and experience how the art market operates from both the outside and the inside. As a result, he has had the opportunity to present his artistic work both in Catalonia and internationally, in places such as Marbella (Spain), Brussels (Belgium), Paris (France), and California (United States).

On various occasions, he has collaborated with artists from different disciplines, including dancer Helena de la Torre, director and producer Conrad Son, and artists Pere Piquer, Albert Arribas, David Casals, and Sergi Mesa.
