Alba Cortés (Cáceres, 1991) holds a PhD in Fine Arts from the University of Seville (2021), where she also earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts (2014) and completed a Master’s Degree in Art: Idea and Production (2016). After receiving a PIF scholarship and working for four years as a lecturer and researcher in the Painting Department of the same faculty, she currently lives and works in Seville, focusing on the development of her artistic practice, which is closely connected to the findings of her doctoral research.

She has undertaken international artistic residencies and production programmes at MTU Crawford College of Art and Design in Cork, Ireland, and at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon, Portugal.

She actively participates in both solo and group exhibitions in Spain and internationally. She has been selected for programmes and calls such as BIUNIC 2019, A Secas (CAAC, 2017), ProjectARTE (2016), and the 2nd Altea Landscape Grant (2016).

Her work is held in the collections of Paul Ricard, the Ateneo Mercantil de Valencia, the Santa Clara Museum in Zafra, Utrera City Council, Morón de la Frontera City Council, the Caixaltea Foundation in Altea, Miguel Hernández University of Elche, the Ocaña Centre in Cantillana, Loyola University, and MTU Crawford College of Art and Design in Ireland.

Her creative process involves obtaining images through both physical and virtual explorations related to the natural environment. Investigating the complexity of the concept of landscape in contemporary times, she explores the pictorial translation of our experience of the environment, considering the stimuli that shape our perception, with the aim of reaffirming the potential of visual language in an increasingly technology-driven age.
