Some images tell a story.
Others invite us to imagine one.
The paintings of Jorge Hernández inhabit the uncertain territory between reality and fiction, memory and imagination.
His scenes resemble film stills, frozen in time. Solitary figures, landscapes, buildings, cars, open spaces and worlds connected to virtual reality are charged with a quiet tension, as though something has just happened or is about to unfold.
Cinema has a profound influence on his work. His compositions have a strong narrative quality and an atmosphere of suspense, yet Hernández avoids definitive explanations. Rather than telling a complete story, he offers clues, silences and small, unexpected details that invite the viewer to take part.
Landscape is more than a backdrop in his paintings. It becomes an emotional space in which human figures often appear small in the face of what they contemplate, remember or imagine.
El instante suspendido (The Suspended Moment) brings together works that explore this in-between moment: time held still within an image, and the brief interval that opens between a painting and its viewer.
In Jorge Hernández’s work, the story is never entirely finished.
The viewer always arrives halfway through.
