What is art photography?

Art photography, also known as fine art photography, is a relatively new branch of art compared to other media such as painting or sculpture. Artistic photography was born in the 19th century, and is a form of expression that communicates the photographer’s unique point of view, provoking deep emotional reactions in the viewers.

Generally, photographic artists transfer their photographs to different supports such as paper, wood, aluminum or methacrylate, among others. Depending on the artist, he can create a unique piece (just a print), or make a series of 10, 20, 100 units or more. The total number of prints determines the exclusivity of the work, the investment opportunity, and generally the price of it. In the details of each artistic photograph for sale you can find the serial number and the support on which it is printed.

History of art photography

It was in 1826 when Joseph Nicephore Niepce achieved the first stable photographic process (a negative), but it was not until 1853 that photography was officially recognized as a branch of art. This classification was possible thanks to the efforts of the Royal Photographic Society of London, which was followed by many other societies around the world. Today it is evident that artistic photography is an official branch of the Fine Arts, supported by millions of artists, art collectors, and investors in all countries of the world.
